Baffin Island 2010
After spending countless hours devising a route plan for my trip to the Arctic this year, I've finally settled on a route that will take me from the hamlet of Clyde River, on Baffin Islands northeastern shore, to the interior. It will be a backpacking trek overland following the Clyde River Inlet, through a maze of small lakes, rivers, and glaciers and ending up at the massive Barnes Ice Cap - the return leg will follow a route northwest of the outbound route. Update: See this post for final route.
I will be leaving from Ottawa the last week in July, staying a couple nights in Iqaluit before flying the final leg to Clyde River. Once in Clyde River I hope to depart for the trek as soon as my gear, food and fuel is sorted and I have about 5 weeks to complete the entire trip.
At this point the trip will be solo, but I am still leaving the door wide open for others to join.
I will be blogging daily along the way and carrying a satellite tracking device to update my position - we live in amazing technological times.
To keep updated, follow and subscribe to this blog. It will be truly inspiring to know that folks are tuning in.
I wanted to get a post out there as soon as I'd sorted enough information and ditched any lines of retreat. It is all forward now and the energy level to pull all the pieces together is high.
I will be updating this blog frequently leading up to the big day with gear news, food findings, and other interesting stuff that comes my way.
